Tips for Safe Cycling in the Rain

One of the major contributors in cycling hazards is the darkness and if it is raining it can add to the woes. Since the weather these days are unpredictable and most cyclists prefer riding throughout the year, in this article we will discuss about some tips for riding in snow and rain.

· While riding in rain or snow it is very important that you dress to stay dry. The wetter you get, the colder you will be. It can make you feel sick and weaker as a rider. Therefore it is very important to keep your core warm. Include a waterproof jacket, waterproof pants/dropped skirt, and a hood in your clothing. Also cover your shoes with neoprene booties to keep them dry. It is important to cover yourself well especially when you are wearing protection accessories like elbow pads or mountain bike pads.

· A clear vision is very important for safe riding. If the light is dim, you can use yellow lenses for protection of your eyes. Sunglasses are also very important in a sunny day when too bright light can block your vision. If you are still facing difficulties in your vision, you can use a cycling cap under your helmet to avoid rain water from hitting your lenses.

· The road surfaces become dangerous while raining. Not only the roads become slippery but also the road grit and water can erode the rubber brake pads. Also due to the slippery surface during rain, most cycle rims need a full revolution before the cycle begins stopping. Therefore, while driving in the rain it is very important to plan ahead.

· Cornering in the rain is a tricky thing. While cornering in the rain try to shift the maximum possible weight on the outside pedal. Leaning your body more than the bike will allow you to complete the cornering without reducing the speed thus you tend to remain more balanced in slippery roads and unseen oil patches.

Staying careful is the key to safe cycling in the rain. However, it is always better to be safe and well-prepared for falls with proper protection accessories like helmets, elbow pads, knee pads, mountain biking pads and other protection accessories.
