The Only Fitness and Exercise Rule I Believe in 100%

There is however one, and only one rule I am willing to stand by 100%. Here it is: No matter what, never, ever quit. That's it right there. I believe in it 100% because it's the only rule that is guaranteed to give you at least a chance of getting in shape, but if you break that rule you stand absolutely no chance of reaching your goals. No matter what you are doing, and no matter how you are doing it, if you quit you're done for. But if you keep your torch lit you can still move forward. It's the only black and white rule I believe in.

Now does this mean you can't quit your gym, quit your diet, or sell that treadmill that's collecting dust in your living room? Hell no! You can do all those things and more. What I'm writing about is not quitting the pursuit of your goals in fitness. You can achieve your goals many different ways, and in most cases it's a good thing to stop using one method in favor of another.

This spring I am looking at selling my prized road bike. Some of my friends have known me for being constantly on my road bike for years. To them they can't believe I am "quitting" road biking. The reality though is that I'm not quitting. I'm simply exchanging. The reason I'm selling it is so I can put more time, money and energy towards riding my mountain bike. It's the furthest thing from quitting, it's advancement! I'm simply trading some of my road biking resources for mountain bike resources.

So while I do believe in the don't quit rule, that doesn't mean you should never quit anything. In fact, I believe it's a terrible idea to take the "don't quit" rule so seriously you never change what you are doing. If I were to "never quit" my road biking I wouldn't be able to free up the time and energy to advance my mountain biking. I would be stuck forever to work hard in both endeavors but hardly make any head way in either. In this way, you can see how never quitting can cause some of the more serious plateaus to occur in our lives. So never quit the pursuit, but always be looking to exchange, improve and above all quit when you have a better opportunity.
