Did you know there are a few types of bikes? Many people would think of the bicycle as a common unit. But in fact, it is more than that. The different types of bikes also adhere to different usage and needs.
Road bicycle
This is used by most professional cyclists, especially in the famous Tour de France. Back in the early days, it was known as 10 speeds. But with advancement of technologies, they have come equipped with speeds of up to 16 to 18 currently. The sport of cycling is more famous in the European countries. The United States was introduced to bicycles later on during the 1960s.
This is one of the fastest type of bicycles you can get out there. With a weight of just 10-15 pounds, you could throttle away with speeds reaching up to 20 or 30 miles per hour. That is equivalent to 32 or 48 kilometres per hour. A racing bike is also one of the most efficient human-powered vehicle.
Touring bicycle
Next, you have the touring bicycles. What are they and are they any different? Right after the emergence of road bikes, touring bikes were the next big thing. One could travel to anywhere easily with these bikes because they are equipped with required gears and equipments for travelling.
The only minor difference is that the tube is a little longer if compared to a racing bike. This is designed in such a way that it provides stability. You will also find that the tires and wheels are slightly wider than usual. You can carry bottles, bags, luggage, and so on.
Triathlon bicycle
These bikes are used in triathlon races, where participants are to run, swim and cycle. A triathlon race is an endurance race. The biggest difference these bikes have is the handle bar that is of aerodynamic design. Its wheels are also aerodynamic. Its advantage is that the bike structure enables the rider to feel less fatigue by imitating the running motion as closely as possible.
Mountain bicycle
Next to the racing bike, a mountain bicycle can be seen almost everywhere. It is so common that everyone has one. Its main function is for off-road cycling. But even with this fact, many people still buy and use them for road cycling. That is fine to do.
However, its true purpose of design lies in terrain like mountains, forest trails, places with dirt and so on. They often come with suspension system. Most will have the front suspension while some with have dual-suspension; front and back. This suspension system serves to absorb impact dealt to the bike.
