Cycling in the Autumn With Bicycle Lights
Bicycle Lights; A Must for Autumn
After a summer of late evening rides, it will be a shock to the system when autumn arrives, however one of the best things you can do is to get fully equipped with bicycle lights. During the summer you probably haven't needed to use a light when you ride because it is still very light until 8 or 9pm. In the autumn, the nights begin to draw in a lot earlier, getting dark around 7 or 8pm so you will need to adapt your riding and get fully prepared. If you plan to carry on cycling during the autumn and winter months, it is important that you are seen by other vehicles and cyclists, hence why bicycle lights are vital. As long as you have a powerful set, front and back, you will avoid any unnecessary accidents simply because others can't see you. Lights can also cut through the rainiest or foggiest of days so when it does start to feel wintry outside, you can still enjoy riding in the knowledge that you are safe and sound.
Embracing the Weather
The cold and wet weather isn't exactly appealing for going out on your bike with no cover, but if you wear the right clothes and use the right equipment, there's no need to stop doing what you love. When you shop for bicycle lights, also look around for suitable clothing. There are many items available that provide comfort, protection and visibility and you don't have to dress in those awful bright colours if you really don't want to; there are plenty of smart and stylish options on the market. Whether you cycle to and from work or just enjoy riding at the weekends, don't let the weather determine when you can enjoy your hobby. Get equipped with a good set of bicycle lights and dress for the day and you'll be well on your way!
Looking After your Bike and Bicycle Lights
During the autumn and winter seasons, your bike is likely to go through harsh conditions with rain, grit and mud constantly an issue so make sure that you give it a clean after every ride and keep on top of it. Your bicycle lights can also get dirty so make sure you give them a wipe to avoid any dirt and debris as this could affect the beam. If you use your bike daily or every few days, keep your light attached to your bike. If you only cycle once a week or a few times a month, you may prefer to take it off and store it indoors.
