Bicycle Safety for Kids

There are a lot of things that I can think of when we talk about child bicycle safety. Safety can be divided into two categories.

The first is about what the child can wear or what he can carry to keep himself safe.
And the other is about lessons that you could teach him before he steps onto a bicycle.

Safety Equipment
There is a plethora of cycling equipment in the market today that just shouts 'bicycle safety for children'. These equipments are made to protect little tots from getting hurt or to prevent them from being in a harmful situation in the first place. Here is the list of equipments that are commonly used to ensure a safe bicycle session.

Helmets - It will surely not be able to avoid accidents, but it will make sure that head injuries are kept to a minimum.
Cycling gloves - Gloves will prevent one of the most common injuries during bicycle accidents- palm injuries. When kids fall, they support themselves using their hands.
Trainer wheels - Another thing on the list on bicycle safety for kids is trainer wheels. These will help the child get a good feel of the bicycle and establish his momentum when the trainer wheels are taken off later.

Avoiding Accidents
When it comes to avoiding accidents, the lessons taught by the adults to the children are as important as any bicycle safety equipment. These lessons are made to build ground rules and safety measures for children.

    No playing on the road.
Do not ride your bike on a busy street.
If for any reason you need to cross a street, look both ways and make sure that it is safe to cross.
Use your common sense. If a friend of yours is doing something unintelligent, and you think you might get injured if you reciprocate the action, then don't do it.
Have perfect control of the bicycle. That means holding both bicycle handlebars.
Place reflectors or wear something bright. This applies to both night and daytime riding.
Always wear bicycle helmet and gloves as this increases safety and is the law in some states.
Do not stray away too far.
Abide by traffic laws and learn to read road signs.
